Nicole was born in Taiwan, educated in Japan and the United States, and emigrated to New Zealand in 2000. Nicole incorporates various cultural elements into her arts. Ideas for her creations come from her wide travel experience and delicate reflections from episodes with diverse people.
Nicole focuses on making porcelain dolls, potteries, acrylic paintings and 3D resin fish and aquatic pieces, which entail detailed and patient work. She is proud of the originality of her arts and tries to infuse a sense of humour into some of her pieces.
Making porcelain ball-jointed dolls is a challenging voyage. Nicole is the pioneer artist making the dolls in New Zealand especially in Christchurch. There is no one before her working on such a complicated ceramic project, locally. She is grateful and lucky to learn compatible skills from many friendly and professional art teachers.
Her first ball-jointed doll was born in December 2020, named 'Christmas Girl". The doll's face is with freckles and always presents a look of pondering. She is 38cm tall and fits into 1/4 Ball-jointed Doll scale. Every piece of her was made originally by Nicole including the silver boots and stylish wigs.
Nicole’s 3D fish are made of 12 layers of resin and acrylic painting is applied to each layer to achieve a 3D effect. The fish are mainly Japanese carp (koi), goldfish and betta fish which emit an exotic ambience. The fish provide a sense of tranquillity and soothing that nourishes the soul of the observer with peace and calm reflection.
